Brief History of Department

The District mental health center was    established in 1994 following Earthquake in Latur District with required staff of 28 personnel with facility for outdoor patients department and 20 indoor patients.

Govt. medical college, latur established in 2002 with intake capacity of 100 students per years. The districts mental health centre was under health services till 2002 after establishment of govt. medical college the district mental health centre was handed over to govt. medical college with facility for outdoor patient department and 30 indoor beds. This is one of the popular psychiatry departments as Latur is situated on the border of 3 states Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh.

It is the nodal centre for implementation of district mental health program under national mental health Program and outreach services to various rural hospitals in the district.
